Rackline’s Monotrak mobile system provides high density storage with rapid retrieval

When pharmaceutical company Altana Pharma Ltd moved premises from Ely, Cambridgeshire to Marlow, Buckinghamshire, it was an opportunity to create Regional filing and storage centres on each floor.

The move to the new building initially involved several consultants and fit-out contractors and Rackline’s wide experience proved invaluable in getting everyone’s approval to what would be the most appropriate storage solution. Timing was also a critical factor. Rackline’s solution was to recommend eight banks of rackline Monotrak mobile storage system to be installed on Ground, First and Second floor levels.

The system comprised of a total of 39 double sided units and 16 single sided static units, each two bays in length, providing a total of 188 bays of Rackline Profile adjustable shelving. This gave a capacity of 264 linear metres on the Ground floor. 456 linear metres on the first floor and 408 linear metres on the second floor.

Monotrak was chosen as it is specifically designed for installation on raised access floors. due to its unique design, there is no requirement for infill floors or ramps. The imposed loads from the system are spread over several wheel sets which avoids the need for extra floor supports.

Monotrak is a high density storage system which uses the minimum amount of floor space, thus leaving more area for productive office staff functions. In this installation Monotrak saved 50% of floor space compared with that of conventional filling and storage.
The units were provided with back sheets to prevent stock migration and were lockable. All operational ends were fitted with steel décor end panels to complement the rest of the office design. Numerous accessories including pull out shelves and cradles were installed to increase staff efficiency on file retrieval. The installations were completed in the minimum amount of time and before staff started to be transferred from the old Ely site.

Luigi Galluzzo, Altana Pharma’s Facility Manager said “Rackline’s experience showed through with their ability to interact with our building consultants and fit-out contractors, to not only provide the most appropriate solution but to complete the installation on time and with the minimum amount of disruption”.
