Local Government Ombudsman Delighted with Rackline
There are three Local Government Ombudsmen in England all appointed by Her Majesty the Queen and they handle with complete impartiality over 17,000 complaints every year.
The York office occupies an elegant Victorian building close to the historic city centre and handles complaints concerning Councils in the North of England.
All cases are allocated a file and these are held within three basement rooms in 20 filing cupboards and on some wooden shelves. Over time the volume of files has grown to the extent that space was rapidly running out and the system was becoming unwieldly and difficult to use. Each file was held in its own hanging pocket and these were causing the staff problems because they were prone to collapsing and made the tasks of file retrieval and backshifting cumbersome and time consuming.
Jo Gault, the Facilities Officer, called in Rackline to provide a solution and an initial meeting was arranged to assess the needs of the staff.
The solution proposed was to replace all the existing filing cupboards with a Rackline Monotrak Mobile Shelving system in one of the rooms and to dispense with the hanging pockets, with the files being held on the new shelving with adjustable dividers to support them.
This has increased the capacity by a massive 80% which will allow the system to expand in the years to come. The system is now much easier and quicker to use and staff members no longer have to dread accessing the filing system.
The new system was fully installed within one day with no mess or fuss and Jo and the staff are delighted with it and also with our Installation personnel who were “absolutely fantastic”. |
