Rackline storage system is a hit

Sanctuary Records Group PLC is one of the world's leading developers of music intellectual property rights (IPR) with offices in London, New York, Berlin, Houston and Los Angeles. Their catalogues contain over 150,000 tracks and their album successes include Morrissey, Kiss and The Strokes.

The Brief
Sanctuary Records wished to relocate their extensive range of material from audio and video tape, vinyl records and memorabilia to a new facility in Telford Road, London. The brief was to consolidate the entire collection into the archive area whilst maintaining a minimal footprint. The new archive area would also need to incorporate a state of the art fire prevention system.

The move was problematic as the Telford Site which was constructed in the 1960s had limited storage area with awkward shaped rooms suited to its original purpose. Sanctuary specified the need for an innovative design maximising the limited space available and incorporating the complex installation required for the Krypton Fire Prevention System. The storage system had to be robust and versatile reflecting the different types of recording material that were to be stored.

"A priceless collection of original recorded material, some of which had not been released or heard in the public domain needed consolidating into one location so it could be stored and protected in a way that reflected it's enormous value"

Solution
Rackline, specialists in storage solutions, installed 150 bays of Profile shelving of which 108 bays were mounted onto their popular Multitrak Mobile Bases with an infill floor around the tracks. The Rackline Multitrak system allows the maximum base length to be used within the room without providing a trip hazard within the floor. The shelving incorporated the height of the room and was three metres in height, accommodating nine levels of storage. The volatile and sometimes unstable material, that the audio and video tapes were made from, sometimes require a good airflow (around the collection), therefore Rackline proposed and provided perforated top shelves and backbraces to accommodate the requirement.

In the end thanks to Racklines innovative design and use of space the system provided over 1500 linear metres of storage.

"We were extremely pleased with the Rackline system and service - the system allowed us to vastly increase the storage capacity whilst allowing for the airflow that is essential within this environment. The service provided was of a high standard"
