Fresh from celebrating the Museums at Night festival from Thursday 26th to Saturday 28th October, the Rackline team will be preparing to exhibit at the Museums Association Conference and Exhibition 2017.

Taking place on the 16th and 17th November at Manchester Central Convention Centre, the Museums Association Conference is a yearly event that is free to attend for visitors and delegates. The exhibition portion of the conference provides the opportunity for visitors to meet leading museum and archiving industry suppliers and attend a range of high-quality workshops. It is the perfect time to network with other museum professionals and pick up new ideas.

Kirkleatham Museum storage case study

This year, there are three themes for the conference:

Audiences

The Museums Association plan to look at the ways that museums can deepen their relationship with the public, especially in the wake of a growing atmosphere of intolerance, mistrust and division following last year’s Brexit vote and the related political unrest.

Important questions to be asked include “what role can museums play in healing some of society’s divisions?”, “how should museums reflect issues such as poverty, globalisation and climate change?” and “how can museums reach out to people who don’t currently visit or engage with museums?”

Collections

Delegates will be encouraged to think about how museum collections can be used to inspire and engage communities and ultimately, make a difference to people’s lives. One key area that will be addressed is how digital technology can help to increase engagement with collections, as well as how the museums sector should approach issues such as collecting, storage and disposal.

As specialists in the supply of museum storage, we look forward to demonstrating how technology can play a key role in the storage of museum collections.

Workforce

As well as looking at the present status of the museum sector, the Museums Association Conference also addresses what the future looks like for the industry, with particular focus on museum professionals of the future. What skills and attributes will they need to face the potential challenges ahead?

We are excited to announce that Rackline will be exhibiting at the event, showcasing our extensive range of specialist museum storage solutions. We are looking forward to introducing hundreds of delegates to our innovative shelving, storage and archiving systems, and demonstrating how inventive technology can play an important part in safely, securely and efficiently storing museum collections.
