International pharmaceutical company, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) teamed up with Rackline to manage the storage requirements for it’s relocation to a new head office, off the A4 in Brentford, Middlesex.
In conjunction with project managers The Stuart Brown Partnership and architects Gardiner Theobold, Rackline was responsible for managing the storage requirements created by the merger of two offices and the relocation of 3,200 employees to the new site.
The £320m project was successfully completed by a team of 10 Rackline specialists with the majority of the project being carried out over a holiday period to minimise staff disruption. In total, more than 1,700 linear metres of filing space were provided to accommodate a variety of storage requirements ranging from shared archiving, lateral and on-shelf files to confidential legal documents and patent information. Criteria included limited floor space, secure access to documents and heavily loaded shelving, all of which dictated the type of installation to be fitted. Rackline’s Profile adjustable duplex steel shelving provided the necessary strong structure and high capacity and was, therefore used throughout. The Monotrak mobile systems were specified with wood effect laminate end panels in the office and powder coated white in the secure storage areas. This project was a real test of logistics planning as the relocation from two separate locations to the new Head Office needed to be completed within a tight time scale which included a holiday shutdown.
By working closely with the architects and project managers (a Rackline speciality), the team ensured a high capacity storage solution which met GSK’s requirements whilst taking up the minimum floor space and maximising the available work area for employees in each department.
